Abstract

This end-of-course work discusses delves into the development of the Air Balance tool, which is a desktop web application for performing weight and balance analysis on small aircraft. The tool was developed to help private pilots and small business owners perform weight and balance analysis in an efficient, practical, and reliable manner. The high cost of acquiring software to perform this type of analysis makes it infeasible for smaller companies to use it, so the Air Balance software proposal is to meet the demand of companies that do not have resources to dedicate to this type of application, allowing the pilot not to have to perform the analysis manually and to use the tool as a way to optimize their tasks. The software has been developed using the Django framework, which is responsible for providing integrated libraries, databases, and the connection/integration of functionalities into the visual interface. The architecture of the software consists of a desktop web application developed with a backend in Python, the language in which the calculations and functionalities of the tool were developed. The visual interface was built using web styling and structuring tools like HTML, JavaScript and CSS. The application is able to perform scalar moment calculations around the longitudinal axis of the aircraft based on the arm and mass information assigned to the load stations, generating a flight envelope that delimits the ideal and safe conditions for operation, making it possible to be aware of the aircraft's center of gravity during all phases of flight and to avoid situations of accident and incident risk throughout the flight. The software was compared with the Garmin Pilot tool, which is a benchmark in the aviation sector. Flight simulations were performed with the same parameters, so the Air Balance software showed similar and reliable results.


Resumo

O objetivo inicial de desenvolver e validar um software de cálculo de peso e balanceamento para aeronaves de asas fixas foi atendido com sucesso, haja visto que foi construído um software totalmente gratuito com a capacidade de realizar um procedimento indispensável para o tráfego aéreo, além disso, a ferramenta apresentou resultados idênticos a outras ferramentas já homologada para essa mesma função disponível no mercado. Dessa forma, os pilotos privados que se utilizam do meio manuscrito para realizar os cálculos e obter a análise de peso e balanceamento das suas aeronaves poderão utilizar-se da ferramenta para obter um resultado mais rápido e confiável.
